“Old pirates, yes, they rob I.

Sold I to the merchant ships

minutes after they took I

from the bottomless pit.

But my hand was made strong

by the hand of the Almighty.

We forward in this generation

triumphantly.”

With so few sympathetics in my little world, I love to hear a Bob Marley song. With the spoken lyrics of one man’s honest reality, and the stories of his people taken from the mainland, it’s a raw beauty unknown elsewhere.

I’m in my little hatchback heading out for the day. I woke late because I’m free today. A few minutes ago, “Redemption Song” came into my head again after several months. I began to sing for an audience of one, myself.

It’s absurd to sing to yourself. I know. But sometimes you are all you’ve got. I’m making sound for no reason. It happens because no one listens like they should.

“Emancipate yourself

from mental slavery.

None but ourselves

can free our one mind.
