The soundtrack of my GNC days.

I listened to this album nonstop while working at the GNC in my hometown’s mall. That was back when the mall actually had a place in local commerce. Now, it is gone. The GNC, I mean. Not the mall. The mall itself is a relic that remains just like the Stoney album.

Now, please, don’t hate just because you don’t like Post Malone or this album or whatever. I am not making a claim about how fantastic he or this album or even rap, R&B, hiphop is. I rarely listen to this area of music, but I did listen to this album A LOT and that’s my story of the day.

This all started when I got in my car this morning. It is a day off for me, the day before Thanksgiving 2021. I got in my car because I needed to go drop my check at the bank. A Post Malone song was playing on the radio and I immediately recognized it. I thought, It has been a while since I listened to Post. So I hopped over to Spotify and put Stoney on. Then all the memories of my GNC days came back.

I used to work at GNC. They used to have stores in every major city in the country. To get an image, think bright lights, flashy labels on various supplements, and white tile. The general vibe was black, white, red.

Sadly, the conditions were not the best. I worked alone most evenings because the company couldn’t afford more than a single person on staff at one time. Not that they…
