Is Humanity a Mixed Bag?
And what about individuals?
I have met a lot of people so far in life. Some good, some less so. I’ve learned that humanity is a mixed bag and to some extent, even certain people are a mixed bag. I am one of those people.
At my last foray into the corporate world, I spoke to people on the telephone regularly. These were people I didn’t know, never met, and would never meet in real life. But I remember one guy because of something he said. I had called to get an update on a shipment and he told me to hold on while he searched the database. Then he veered off into personal stuff to fill the gap. He said something like, “I never said I was stable. They didn’t ask at the interview so I didn’t say I wasn’t.” I had been feeling rather frazzled about the new and different responsibilities of this type of employment, so his personal comment struck me rather humorously. I know I’m not always consistent in how I face life. I guess, even singular humans can be a mixed bag.
But humanity in general is even more so a mixed bag. One person is not like another, and so you see a bit of everything when you spend enough time out there with people. Some people can be downright hilarious, like my younger sister. She’s always got something funny to say, despite her personal suffering. She was telling me the other day how her jaw hurts. She has TMJ Syndrome. She managed to make slip in a laugh by saying that she will never rate her pain as a 10. She says, “Ten is: I’m dead.” I guess nine is as bad as it gets for her (and…
