Body Dysfunction

A Poem by Sam Grackle

This body
cannot keep up —
rages against itself.
two halves
broken
divergence
material
decay

while the diamond inside
lives, asking
what if not
these things
these objects

why animation
moving flesh
it’s magic
doubtless

the mystery of being
begs many questions
too many to ask
a lifetime’s wonder
and answers
we cannot verify

believe
still warm
belief
because
what makes sense
here

nothing

This one is about the body and it’s inevitable division from the soul. We are material beings but we have something eternal within us. A lifetime’s wondering about the meaning of life is not enough to find all of the answers and this is why I tend to believe there is something more beyond this life. Furthermore, so much of life is mysterious if we just take an honest look at it. Some things just don’t make sense and that’s what I consider to be “the miraculous”.
